With Sight Reading Studio's Ensemble Mode, you can display your full score to the entire ensemble for group sight reading practice. This mode offers several options for part display, playback scrolling, and audio playback. Note that assessment is not currently available with Ensemble Mode. This is intended for generating sight reading exercises so that a group can read these together and the teacher can audibly check for correctness.
Before you can access Ensemble Mode, a completed template must opened or created. Once you complete, click on the Launch Ensemble Mode button (or press COMMAND/CONTROL+E).
When Ensemble Mode opens, the following options will be available:
- Count-off length – Use the + and - controls or type a number in directly to control the amount beats that are counted before playback starts.
- Study time length – This is the amount of time, in seconds, for reading the score after it displays but before playback begins. Click the >> button to start playback immediately.
- Audio controls – Mute or adjust the levels for the score playback and the metronome.
- Play/Pause (SPACEBAR) – Click play to start or pause playback. If study time has started, the counter will remain at its current point when pausing and then starting again. Restarting playback after pausing the exercise after it has started will reinitiate study time again.
- Generate new exercise (Command/CONTROL + G) – Clicking this will create a new exercise based on the template's criteria. This control is not available during playback.
- Display – Controls for how the Parts and Scrolling functions work during playback.
- Parts
- Show all instruments. This will display all instrument staves that are in the template.
- Show one staff per transposition and clef. This will condense the score so that only one staff is shown per clef needed and different transposing instruments of the score.
- Scrolling.
- Horizontal scroll. This scrolling will show all staves as continual lines that extend off the page to the right. The cursor will stay just left of center as the music flows behind it to the left, off the screen. This is best for larger ensembles.
- Horizontal division. This will split the exercise with a horizontal division into two vertically placed systems (reading top to bottom) on the page. Note that this is not ideal for larger ensembles.
- Vertical Division. This will split the exercise with a vertical division point into two horizontally placed systems (reading left to right) on the page. Note that this is not ideal for larger ensembles.
- Parts
- Zoom percentage – Use this to increase or decrease the zoom setting for the notation display. Note that this is only available during study time when not playing back.
- Full-screen mode – This toggle button will force the ensemble mode view to fit all the space of the monitor.
- Hide playback cursor – Toggle the visibility of the playback on or off.
- Close – Click the X to exit Ensemble mode and go back to Sight Reading Studio.
