Paid classes now display an Engagement score that is calculated daily. This single metric helps you quickly identify classes that need support and those who deserve recognition so you can intervene sooner, celebrate more, and keep every student progressing. The higher your class Engagement score is, the more your students are demonstrating quality participation and engagement.
Where can I see my Engagement score?
Once a class has enough data, the current day’s Engagement score and a trend (based on the past 7-day average) will appear on the teacher’s class cards on their Home page:
Clicking on the class card will allow the teacher to see the overview of the class Engagement score and primary component scores:
Clicking “View all” (or navigating to “Class analytics” in the main menu) will show your Class comparison page, including all of the component metrics for all of your classes side by side, to help you spot trends and outliers. You may sort this data by any column to view your classes by the metric that is the most important to you.
The prior Class analytics features (including practice minutes by class or by student, assigned and explored content, and awards) are still available for all classes under the remaining tabs:
How are these values calculated?
There are four underlying factors that contribute to the Engagement score:
- Participation
- Assignment completion
- Average minutes
- Average grade
Participation
As long as your paid class has students enrolled, we will display your class participation score. This shows what percentage of your enrolled students have opened, played, or recorded content within MakeMusic Cloud in the past 28 days.
Assignment completion
When you use assignments in MakeMusic Cloud, it gives students a direct opportunity to practice the content that is right for them, and for you to review and assess their progress. This score displays what percentage of assignments that were due in the past 28 days were submitted by students on time, based on the assignment due date. Both graded and ungraded assignments will count toward your class’ completion percentage.
Average minutes
This calculation uses the same “active minutes” concept that the students see in their Dori weekly progress tracker to measure the number of minutes of playback or recorded takes they have completed. This number represents the average “active minutes” over the past four weeks for the students in your class who participated in that time frame, so holidays or temporary dips in practice behavior will balance themselves out. Students who did not participate in the past 28 days will not factor into this measurement.
Average grade
Grades are not required to calculate your class Engagement score; but if you are using graded assignments, your class average for assignments due in the past 28 days can be viewed on the Class comparison page. When your class’s grades trend up or down compared to the prior period, this additional information is factored into your Engagement score calculation.
Engagement score
Based on the trends of successful programs, the Engagement score combines all four of the individual metrics into one objective rating you can use to quickly identify classes to celebrate and places to pay attention to. Each class will have their score calculated daily based on the past 28 days of data. For very engaged classes, it is possible to receive an Engagement score above 100. We do not have a “theoretical maximum” score, since the maximum amount of practice time is unlimited.
Viewing trends over time
On the Class comparison page, you can also see how the weekly average of each of your class metrics have changed over the last 3, 6, or 12 months. Select a class name from the dropdown to see the history.
