Administrators and Teachers can manage their MakeMusic Cloud platform by allocating and deallocating their paid seats. Take a look below for instructions on how to make sure all Students and Teachers have the correct access level.
Jump to:
Full Access Teacher seats
A Teacher with Full Access can use all the teaching tools in MakeMusic Cloud and create Free, MakeMusic Cloud, or Sight Reading Studio classes, based on availability of subscriptions on the platform. See Managing MakeMusic Cloud access for more information.
- Allocate a Full Access Teacher seat to an unconnected teacher on the Teachers page by selecting Invite New Teacher. Enter the teacher's email address, and select either Teacher Subscription or Teacher Subscription + Print (if your platform has available Print add-ons). See make yourself an educator or invite others to connect as an educator.
- The Sub. type column displays a blue Teacher label for teachers who currently have a Teacher seat allocated on the platform. On the other hand, a grey label is used for teachers whose subscriptions are owned individually or come from another platform.
- Allocate a Full Access Teacher seat to a Free Access Teacher on the Teachers page by selecting the checkbox to the left of their name, choosing Manage subscriptions, and selecting the subscription type you wish to allocate. You can select multiple teachers at once to perform this action.
- Deallocate a Full Access Teacher seat from a Full Access Teacher on the Teachers page by selecting the checkbox to the left of their name, choosing Manage subscriptions, and remove their Teacher subscription. . A Teacher seat is also deallocated when choosing Archive Teachers to archive the Teacher from the platform. You can select multiple teachers at once to perform these actions.
Student seats
Students with Student subscriptions can open or be assigned any title from the MakeMusic Cloud catalog, Sight Reading Studio, or Compose. Students who join a MakeMusic Cloud paid class on a platform will automatically receive Student access. For more information, see Managing MakeMusic Cloud Access.
- Allocate Student seats on the Classes page by creating a class connected to a platform where Student subscriptions are available. Share the class code with the students for them to join, or roster them into your class through an LMS connection or CSV file. A Student seat is not allocated until the student joins the class. Remember that if a student is already enrolled in another class on the same MakeMusic Cloud platform, the student will not consume an additional seat. See Creating a class and Adding students to your class.
- Deallocate individual Student seats by removing a Student from the student list. Select the checkbox(es) to the left of each student's name, select Manage students, and select Remove from class. The Student seat(s) will be deallocated, assuming the selected student(s) are not also enrolled in another Paid class on the platform. See Removing a student from a class.
-
Deallocate Student seats en masse in two ways:
- Downgrade the class itself. On the Classes tab under Class Type, select Free.
- Archive the class by selecting the icon in the Archive column. See Archiving a class.
All Student seats within a downgraded or archived class will be deallocated, assuming that Students are not also enrolled in another active, Paid class.
Print seats
An Administrator or Teacher can allocate Print seats to connected Teachers (with Teacher subscriptions) and Performers (students enrolled in a paid MakeMusic Cloud class). With a Print subscription, a teacher or student can print for their personal use any printable title from the MakeMusic Cloud catalog. Printable titles display the printer icon in the search results.

Select individual teachers by clicking the checkbox to the left of each teacher's name, or click the checkbox at the top left to select all teachers. Then select Manage subscriptions, and click Print add-on to add or remove it from the selected teachers.
If one or more of the selected teachers do not have Full Access Teacher subscriptions, you will be prompted to allocate Teacher subscriptions along with Print.

Sight Reading Studio seats
Sight Reading Studio subscriptions can be given to either teachers or students. A Sight Reading Studio seat allows the user to access the Sight Reading Studio tool to create, share, and practice fully customizable sight reading exercises with built-in assessment. Students with Sight Reading Studio subscriptions can also complete Sight Reading Studio assignments assigned to them by a Full Access Teacher.
- Allocate a Sight Reading Studio seat to an unconnected teacher on the Teachers page by selecting Invite New Teacher. Enter the teacher's email address, and select Sight Reading Studio Subscription. Note that teachers invited with a Sight Reading Studio subscription will have access to create, practice, and share Sight Reading Studio exercises, but they will not be able to create Sight Reading Studio assignments for their class; a Full Access Teacher subscription is required to create Sight Reading assignments.
- Allocate a Sight Reading Studio seat to a Free Access teacher already listed on the Teachers page by selecting their row(s), Manage subscriptions, and select Sight Reading Studio.
Students who join a Sight Reading class on a platform will automatically receive Sight Reading Studio access. For more information, see Managing MakeMusic Cloud Access.

Share the class code with the students for them to join, or roster them into your class through an LMS connection or CSV file. A Sight Reading Studio seat is not allocated until the student joins the class. Remember that if a student is already enrolled in another paid MakeMusic Cloud or Sight Reading class on the same MakeMusic Cloud platform, the student will not consume an additional seat. See Creating a class and Adding students to your class.
- If your organization is funding your Sight Reading Studio seats, students who join your class will be automatically allocated a subscription. If more students join your class than you have seats available, the remaining students will be given Free Access when they join your Sight Reading class. You can see the level of access a student has on the Class Details page. Students with Free access will not be able to open the full Sight Reading Studio tool, or complete assignments for Sight Reading Studio content. If you need to add additional seats to your platform mid-year, contact our sales team.
