MakeMusic Cloud paid classes now have the option to be connected to a Google Classroom gradebook. This is a one-way sync that will automatically push your assignments and their grades from MakeMusic Cloud into your connected Google Classroom gradebook as they are completed. Assignments and edits made directly in Google Classroom will not appear in your MakeMusic Cloud class.
Note: A MakeMusic Cloud class can only be connected to one Google Classroom gradebook at a time. We recommend that you set up your MakeMusic Cloud class rosters to match your Google Classroom rosters when using this feature to ensure all of your students are able to receive their assignments in Google Classroom.

Setting up a new classroom for Grade Passback
If you are rostering a new MakeMusic Cloud class and want it to connect to your Google Classroom gradebook, keep the “Sync grades to Google Classroom” checkbox checked when you import your students from your LMS:
When this option is checked, once your students are invited, your MakeMusic Cloud class will be set up to have the option to pass assignments and grades through to Google Classroom.
If you are importing your roster from Google Classroom and do NOT want any assignments from this class to push grades to Google Classroom, uncheck this box before clicking “Log in with Google”.
Managing Grade Passback for an existing class
If your MakeMusic Cloud class has already been rostered, you can turn the connection to Google Classroom on or off through your Class Settings page. Open your class in Admin, and click the pencil icon to edit your class settings:
From there, click the “Log in with Google” button to select which of your Google Classroom gradebooks to connect to this class. You need to click “Log in” here even if you are already logged in through Google SSO, because you need to approve additional permissions to allow MakeMusic Cloud to post to your Google Classroom.
Allow the required permissions:
Then, select which of your Google Classroom gradebooks to connect to this class:
This class is now connected, and will display that connection in the Class Settings page:
If at any time you want to stop passing assignments and grades to Google Classroom for this class, you can click the Remove button to end the connection. This will show a confirmation message, explaining that your Google Classroom gradebook will stop receiving updates for assignments submitted after this connection has been removed. This action can not be undone; once the assignments are unlinked from Google, linking the class back to Google will enable the connection for future assignments, but not existing ones.
You will also know which of your classes are successfully connected to a Google Classroom gradebook by viewing the “Gradebook sync” display on your Class Details page in Admin:
Creating synced assignments
To create an assignment, define your assignment settings as desired, or reuse an existing assignment from your Assignments page. Once your class’s connection to Google Classroom has been configured, when selecting which classes to assign to, you will see a Google Classroom logo next to your classes that have the option to pass grades through to Google.
The “Post this assignment on Google Classroom” option will be enabled by default, so if you do NOT want this particular assignment to appear in Google Classroom, uncheck this box. This setting can not be changed once the assignment is sent to your students. If you accidentally pass an assignment through to Google that you don’t want there, you can delete it from your Google Classroom gradebook.
As of November 25, 2025, Google grade passback for individuals is now available! You can now can pick and choose individual students to assign to the same way as you can for non-Google assignments. You can also edit individual students on an assignment passed back to Google, even if it was assigned before this feature was released.
You may assign your assignment immediately, or click the dropdown to schedule the assignment to appear on a future date. If Schedule is selected, the assignment will not appear in your or your students’ Google Classroom until the scheduled date.
Your students will be notified once the assignment is posted to your Google Classroom if they have assignment notifications enabled, and they will be able to click the link from the assignment in Google Classroom to open MakeMusic Cloud and complete their assignment. Students should be encouraged to click the link in the assignment description to view and complete their assignment in MakeMusic Cloud; they don’t need to click any of the Google Classroom options to submit.
If your assignment settings use the “Grade automatically” gradebook option, as soon as your student submits their assignment in MakeMusic Cloud, you and the student will see their grade appear in both MakeMusic Cloud and Google Classroom.
If your assignment is “Ungraded”, the students will receive the assignment in Google, but MakeMusic Cloud will not create a grade to pass back to the Google Classroom gradebook.
If your assignment uses the “Review each submission” setting, the grade will not appear in Google Classroom until you have reviewed and graded the submission in MakeMusic Cloud.
Note: It is expected that the grade may display with “Not turned in” below the grade. This is a limitation from Google, since the grade was created without the student taking an action within Google Classroom, and does not indicate a problem. Grades that have actually not been turned in yet will display as blanks; and late work that has not been turned in will display as “Missing”:
Important Note: Do not modify your students’ grades or due dates directly in Google Classroom. The grade passback is a one-way sync, so changes to these assignments from the Google side will not pass back to MakeMusic Cloud. If you need to modify a student’s grade or assignment due date, edit it within your MakeMusic Cloud gradebook, and that update will show on the Google Classroom gradebook automatically. If you modify the assignment in Google Classroom, your edits may be overwritten the next time the gradebook syncs with MakeMusic Cloud.
Students who are enrolled in your class after an assignment has been passed through to Google may see that grade in MakeMusic Cloud, but not Google. Students will only get grades passed through when they are enrolled in the class at the time the assignment was assigned.
If you need to delete an assignment completely, do so in MakeMusic Cloud. Deleting a synced assignment there will remove it both from MakeMusic Cloud and from Google Classroom. Deleting the assignment from only your Google Classroom will prevent that assignment from receiving further updates in Google, but it will still exist in your MakeMusic Cloud gradebook.
Troubleshooting
While the assignments and grades synced to Google should appear automatically without any extra steps required from you or the students, it may be possible for your gradebook’s connection to Google to stop working if you have removed MakeMusic Cloud’s permissions to your Google Classroom gradebook. If you think your Google Classroom gradebook is missing assignments or grades that are appearing in your MakeMusic Cloud gradebook and were configured to pass through to Google, you can force an update by clicking the “Sync to LMS” button on your MakeMusic Cloud gradebook grid page. This will trigger a full update of all assignments and grades for this class.
